Approved indications
- Symptomatic treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux, such as acid regurgitation, heartburn and indigestion, which may occur, for example, following meals or during pregnancy.
Contraindications
Absolute
- Known or suspected hypersensitivity to sodium alginate or to any of the excipients.
Clinical warnings
- The high sodium content in some formulations may be harmful for patients on strict low-salt diets (e.g., congestive heart failure, renal impairment). — Clinical Knowledge
- Formulations containing calcium carbonate should be used with caution in patients with hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis, or recurrent calcium-containing renal calculi. — Clinical Knowledge
Drug interactions

Mechanism: Formation of a physical barrier that may reduce or delay the absorption of other concomitantly administered drugs.
Recommendation: Administer at least 2 hours apart from other medications to minimize the potential for interaction.
