Absolute

  • Intestinal obstruction, stenosis, atony, appendicitis, inflammatory colon diseases (e.g., Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).
  • Abdominal pain of unknown cause.
  • Severe dehydration states with water and electrolyte depletion (especially hypokalemia).
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding.
  • Children under 12 years of age.
