Absolute

  • Concomitant use with potassium-sparing diuretics such as triamterene and amiloride.
  • Pre-existing hyperkalemia.
  • Severe renal impairment or untreated Addison's disease.

Pregnancy and lactation

Pregnancy: Fetal harm is not expected from potassium supplementation that does not lead to maternal hyperkalemia. Lactation: Oral potassium becomes part of the body potassium pool and is expected to have little or no effect on the level in human milk.
