Pregnancy and lactation

Human experience suggests that iodine may cause congenital malformations and that excess iodine harms the fetus. Avoid continuous, excessive, or large-area use during pregnancy and breastfeeding; iodine crosses the placenta and enters milk and may cause fetal hypothyroidism or thyroid dysfunction or goiter in the infant.
