Contraindications

Absolute

  • Hypersensitivity to tramadol; acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, centrally acting analgesics, opioids, or psychotropic drugs.
  • Concomitant use of MAO inhibitors or within 2 weeks after their discontinuation.
  • Significant respiratory depression; acute or severe bronchial asthma in an unmonitored setting.
  • Children younger than 12 years of age; post-operative management in children younger than 18 years following tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy.
  • Severe hepatic impairment; epilepsy not controlled by treatment.

Pregnancy and lactation

Prolonged use during pregnancy can cause neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome. Not recommended during breastfeeding due to potential excretion into breast milk and risk of serious adverse effects in the infant.
